February Monthly Giving Update

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

-Mark 12:30

What do you love the most? The things that you love motivate your actions. You care well for those objects, relationships or ideals. The things you value and spend your time and money on tell a story about what has your affections. Is it a car? A house? A spouse? A child? Your comfort? Your appearance?

Many people love money and things. They live in fear that their money and things will disappear. The fear that we feel when there is a threat to our money reveals a lot about us. If God is our love, He can never be threatened or taken away. If God has the affection of our heart, soul, mind and strength, it can never be lost. We can have a transcending peace.

Often, loving God is easier said than done. What does is it even mean to love God with your heart, mind, soul, and strength. Your heart is the things you value. For example how much do you value your time with God? The affections of your mind are the things you think about and allow into your thoughts, like prayer. Your soul is your identity. Showing God love with your soul could be believing the things he says about you. Your strength is your outward expression of love through your actions, like loving others.

I encourage you as we approach spring to make an assessment of your love. Ask yourself what do you love most? Do the things you love have good or bad effects on you? Does it encourage you to love God more or does it steal some of your love for God? Pray that God will help you grow in your love for him.
